This resource contains 4 comprehension activities suitable for using with year 1 or lower ability year 2. The theme in this pack is 'Autumn. There are four different comprehensions: What happens in the autumn What to do in the autumn - go for a woodland walk What to do in the autumn - make a leaf hedgehog How to go blackberry picking Each comprehension contains a short piece of text with words that can be sounded out. There are three trickier words which have pictures to help children work out what they say. The text is followed by 5 simple questions. Answers are also included. There is also a PowerPoint included in the pack containing a slide for each text so that you can go through the comprehensions before the children complete them. Each slide also contains 3 words that are trickier to sound out, with sound buttons underneath them.

This is an assembly for teaching children about Lent. It is suitable for ages 5-11. The theme is ‘giving something up’ and it is based on a Bible story about Jesus. The 4 page pdf assembly plan is highly interactive, with plenty of opportunity for volunteers to take part or give answers or ideas. It includes questions to ask the children with answers. There is an introduction, a discussion, a Bible story, a further discussion and a final prayer/reflection. This is a set of three lesson plans to teach children about the fun Jewish holiday of Purim. It is suitable for ages 7 - 11. The pdf plans are very detailed (11 pages plus resources). These lessons could be taught at any time of the year. Lesson 1 teaches children about the story of Queen Esther and includes a drama hot seating activity. Lesson 2 teaches children about how Jewish people celebrate Purim and includes a letter writing activity. Lesson 3 consolidates the previous lessons and includes two art activities based on Purim celebrations. Each lesson starts with an introductory session and finishes with a plenary session. There are also lots of opportunities for whole class discussions. The plan includes three differentiated levels of objectives and all the necessary resources. This resource is a non-fiction comprehension activity for year 2. The theme of the comprehension is ‘living in space’ and the booklet covers what it is like for astronauts living in space stations, including what they eat, how they sleep, how they exercise and what they do in their spare time. It would be perfect for using during ‘World Space Week’ in October, during a space topic or during ‘Science Week.’ The booklets are based on the KS1 SATs reading paper. I have included 3 differentiated levels. There are a range of ‘what,’ ‘where,’ ‘how’ and ‘who’ questions, some multiple choice tick questions and some that require more detailed answers. The activity is also laid out in a similar way to the SATs booklets. There is a title page with helpful words followed by four pages of pictures and short written extracts to read and 4 questions per page. Each differentiated level contains 16 questions in total. There is a colour and black white PDF version of the booklet for each level and answers are also included.
